In 1857, the French brought coffee to Vietnam during their colonial conquest, but it was not until 1914 that the French chose Buon Ma Thuot as a place to specialize in Robusta coffee cultivation based on careful research on soil, climate, altitude, etc. By 1922, the red basalt land of Dak Lak was quickly covered in a vast green color with coffee farms managed by the French. With its quality and characteristic natural aroma, rich body, Buon Ma Thuot Robusta coffee was mainly exported to France at that time. Only a small number of people working for the French government had the opportunity to enjoy coffee in a Western lifestyle, while workers simply considered it an energy-boosting drink for work.
